Irritable Bowel Syndrome

A gentle approach to help relieve symptoms of IBS.

IBS is a condition that can be painful and tiring, often involving high levels of anxiety and stress. Suffering with, and trying to make accommodations for, IBS can really get in the way of making plans and enjoying a good quality of life. The style of hypnotherapy I offer for IBS helps you to gain an understanding of the link between the mind and gut and to learn tools to ease the anxiety and stress related to IBS. Hypnotherapy is one of the treatments recognised by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) for IBS. View the full NICE guidelines on IBS.

Whilst my practice remains tailored to the individual, in addition to the solution-focused style of hypnotherapy I use to support clients with other goals, hypnotherapy for IBS typically involves at least six sessions, and will include a more directive form of hypnosis focussed on decreasing the sensitivity of the gut. Trained by the Clinical Hypnotherapy School, I use this approach because it follows the evidence base, which you can read about on the Hypnotherapy Directory. You can read more information about hypnosis for IBS from the IBS Network .

This approach complements techniques which gently encourage a positive mindset, helps you to consider your goals and gives you tools to gain confidence and coping strategies.
